STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN / RankWire.AI / – According to official data, Sweden’s industrial activity decreased by 1.5% in June compared to the same month last year. Seasonal adjustments also showed a 0.4% decline from May. Statistics Sweden reported that the Industrial Production Value Index stood at 112.4, down from 112.9 in May. This June figure followed a revised 7.6% year-on-year increase in May, marking a clear shift from the previous month’s strong growth.

Manufacturing output fell 1.0% from June 2025 and 0.4% from May. Mining and quarrying saw a sharper drop, decreasing 13.8% annually, and 3.3% from May. Industry accounts for 20.2% of Sweden’s overall private-sector production, with manufacturing making up most of that share at 19.4 percentage points.
Despite the decline in June, industrial activity remained higher over the second quarter. Average output from April to June was up 4.0% compared to the same period in 2025, and seasonally adjusted production grew 4.8% from the previous three months. Sweden’s overall private-sector output also expanded in June, increasing 0.4% from May and 1.8% year-on-year.
Private-sector activity shows annual growth
Services output slipped 0.2% from May but was still 3.0% higher than June 2025. Construction activity rose 2.0% month-on-month and 7.6% from a year earlier. The services index was at 111.9, compared with 112.1 in May, while construction increased to 94.9 from 93.0. Services make up 67.2% of the broader production measure, with construction accounting for 8.4%.
Separate data from Statistics Sweden indicated a significant rise in new industrial orders in June, with total orders up 32.3% from May after seasonal adjustment. They were 29.9% higher than in June 2025 on a calendar-adjusted basis. Export orders surged 56.5% from May and 57.6% compared to a year earlier, whereas domestic orders remained nearly unchanged month-on-month but declined 7.4% annually.
Export orders lead gains as transport equipment experiences biggest increase
Transport equipment recorded the most substantial growth among the main industrial order categories, rising 101.0% from May and 118.2% from June 2025. Manufacturing orders grew 33.2% month-on-month and 31.2% year-on-year. Orders for capital goods increased 45.5% from May and 50.7% annually. In contrast, mining and quarrying orders declined 1.8% from May and 19.0% from the previous year.
Looking at the first half of 2026, total industrial orders were 4.0% above the same period in 2025. Export orders grew 6.6% during that timeframe. While the production index measures output at constant prices, the orders series reflects new demand from both domestic and international clients. It is important to note that preliminary monthly figures can be revised once additional data is received.
